SAP S/4HANA Migration Tool Comparison

uMigrate vs Syniti vs SNP CrystalBridge — 15 parameters across source fit, RISE compatibility, migration process, commercial model, and post-migration value. Independently evaluated April 2026.

How to read this table. Each row evaluates a capability critical to SAP S/4HANA migration — particularly for RISE Private Cloud deployments. Scores reflect platform architecture, not project delivery outcomes. Strong = native capability, no workaround required. Partial = achievable with conditions or partner involvement. Weak = structural limitation that cannot be configured away. This comparison focuses on parameters that determine whether a migration tool can serve as a complete, RISE-compliant, business-driven migration platform — and whether it delivers ongoing operational value after go-live.

Source Fit
Non-SAP Source Support Native connectors for non-SAP systems — no custom ETL per source Weak No native non-SAP connectors. Each source requires custom ETL/JDBC — consultant-hours per system. Strong 161+ native connectors including non-SAP DBs, cloud apps, flat files. No custom ETL needed. Weak CrystalBridge reads SAP system landscape. Non-SAP sources are outside core design. Requires separate tooling.
Multi-Source Consolidation Single platform handles SAP and non-SAP in one project Weak Every non-SAP system is a separate bespoke project. No unified framework across mixed sources. Strong Single platform handles SAP and non-SAP in one migration project. No source-type switching. Weak SDT Engagement is explicitly SAP-to-SAP. Multi-source non-SAP consolidation not a stated capability.
Data Profiling & Discovery Business-user profiling without SQL — across all source types Partial Solid data quality and profiling for SAP objects. Weaker on arbitrary non-SAP schemas — no semantic layer. Strong 450K+ semantic models from SAP. Visual, no-code profiling across all source types. Business users can profile without SQL. Partial CrystalBridge excels at SAP landscape analysis and interface mapping. Non-SAP schema profiling not available.
RISE Private Cloud Compatibility
Loading Mechanism Loads within RISE-allowed access patterns — no staging workarounds Weak Must load via Migration Cockpit staging tables. Cannot create tables outside Cockpit. Adds bottleneck for every object. Strong 67 pre-built LTMC templates load directly into Migration Cockpit. Fully within RISE-allowed access patterns by design. Strong SAP-endorsed SDT Engagement partner. Uses SAP-approved transformation patterns with broader negotiated access.
Direct Table Write Restriction Architecture does not require direct S/4HANA table writes on RISE Weak Structurally blocked from direct S/4HANA table writes on RISE. This is the customer's current blocker — cannot be configured away. Strong Architecture never required direct table writes. LTMC-based loading is compliant by design, not workaround. Strong Operates within SAP-governed patterns as SDT member. No direct writes but broader object access than standard Cockpit.
Migration Object Coverage Handles complex and custom SAP objects beyond standard Cockpit catalog Weak Limited to Migration Cockpit's standard object catalog. Custom/complex objects require manual ABAP — no shortcut. Partial 67 LTMC templates cover standard SAP objects. Objects outside the 67 need custom development — same as others. Strong Broadest coverage via SAP SDT. Handles complex historical data and custom SAP objects beyond standard Cockpit scope.
Migration Process
Migration Approach Iterative vs waterfall — business sees data throughout, not only at cutover Weak Waterfall ETL: Extract → Transform → Load. Sequential phases. Business sees data only at end of each phase. Strong Iterative agile cycles: Discover → Extract → Load → Validate repeated per wave. Gradual cutover by module or org unit. Strong Selective data transformation — choose what to migrate, what to leave. Strong phased approach by company code or org unit.
Business Involvement Business teams drive validation — not IT-only, not consultant-only Weak IT and Syniti-certified consultants own the project end-to-end. Business validates only after final cutover. Strong Ops-driven. Business validates in Excel and Power BI throughout migration cycles. GenAI guides non-technical users. Partial Requires SI partner expertise. Business involvement defined by project governance structure. Not self-serve.
Downtime Risk Source and target run in parallel — no big-bang cutover required Weak Traditional big-bang cutover. Downtime risk increases with non-SAP source complexity and custom ETL scope. Strong Zero downtime. Source systems and S/4HANA run in parallel. STREAM maintains live intelligence throughout. Gradual switchover. Strong Near-zero downtime designed into methodology. Automation reduces cutover window. Proven in large RISE projects (IBM, Airbus).
Live Intelligence During Migration Excel, Power BI, and AI connections stay live throughout migration Weak Excel, Power BI, and analytics connections break during migration. No mechanism to maintain live data access. Strong STREAM maintains live connections to source during migration. Excel and Power BI auto-switch to S/4HANA backend post-cutover. AI agents stay operational throughout. Weak SNP Datafridge handles legacy data access post-migration. Operational intelligence continuity during migration is not in scope.
Commercial
Cost Model Platform-based pricing vs per-source consulting spend Weak SAP Solution Extension pricing plus heavy consulting services layer. Non-SAP sources add scope and cost per system. Enterprise-level spend. Strong Platform-based pricing. Pre-built templates reduce custom dev. No SQL/ABAP dependency reduces consultant hours significantly for non-SAP sources. Weak Enterprise SI pricing: CrystalBridge license plus SI partner delivery. Cost justified for large SAP-to-SAP transformations; harder to justify for non-SAP scenarios.
Delivery Model Business teams drive validation phases without IT dependency Weak Requires Syniti-certified consultants throughout. No self-serve capability. Every non-SAP complexity adds consulting scope. Strong Business teams drive validation phases without IT. SAP implementation partner can overlay for ABAP/config work. Flexible delivery. Partial Delivered via SNP directly or their partner network. Strong methodology and governance but limited flexibility for leaner delivery models.
Timeline Iterative cycles and pre-built templates enable earlier partial go-live Weak 18–36+ months. Each non-SAP source system adds custom ETL scope and extends timeline independently. Strong Faster due to iterative cycles, pre-built templates, and no-code extraction. Parallel operation enables earlier partial go-live. Partial 18–30 months. Automation speeds SAP transformation steps. Non-SAP sources add scope. Enterprise governance adds overhead.
Post-Migration Value
Ongoing Operations Value Migration leads into live operational intelligence — not a dead-end tool Weak Tool purpose ends at go-live. No post-migration operational intelligence capability included. Strong Migration leads directly into STREAM platform: People@Work (live Excel/Power BI), P2P AI Agent, Microsoft Fabric integration. S/4HANA becomes a live intelligence engine on day one. Weak SNP Datafridge provides legacy data access post-migration. Operational intelligence for ongoing operations is out of scope.
AI-Era Readiness MCP, real-time semantic models, AI agents built in — not a separate investment Weak Data migration tool only. AI readiness post-go-live requires entirely separate investment and tooling. Strong MCP integration, real-time semantic models, AI agents, and Microsoft Fabric connectivity built in. S/4HANA is AI-ready from day one. Partial SNP positions clean, governed data as the AI-readiness foundation. Actual AI tooling requires additional SAP BTP or analytics investment post-migration.
Summary
Primary use case fit SAP data replication and migration — SAP-centric, consultant-led, RISE-constrained RISE-compliant SAP + non-SAP migration with live business intelligence throughout and beyond go-live Complex SAP-to-SAP transformation — strongest for large pure-SAP estates with SDT partner access
Legend: Strong Native capability — no workaround required Partial Achievable with conditions, partner involvement, or additional tooling Weak Structural limitation — cannot be configured away

Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs →
Why can't Syniti write directly to S/4HANA tables on RISE Private Cloud? +
RISE Private Cloud restricts direct database access to protect SAP's managed infrastructure. Tools that relied on direct table writes — a common pattern in traditional migration tooling — are structurally blocked. This is not a configuration issue; it is an architectural constraint enforced by SAP. uMigrate was built around SAP Migration Cockpit (LTMC), which is the SAP-approved loading mechanism on RISE, so no workaround is required.
Does uMigrate handle non-SAP source systems — or only SAP-to-SAP migrations? +
uMigrate supports 161+ native source connectors including non-SAP databases, cloud applications, and flat files — no custom ETL build required per source. This is a key differentiator versus both Syniti (which requires custom JDBC builds per non-SAP system) and SNP CrystalBridge (which is designed for SAP-to-SAP transformations). If your migration landscape includes legacy ERP, custom databases, or third-party applications, uMigrate handles all of them within a single project.
Will our Excel and Power BI reports break during the migration? +
Not with uMigrate. STREAM maintains live connections to the source system throughout the migration. At cutover, Excel and Power BI connections automatically switch to the S/4HANA backend — no re-mapping, no broken reports, no refresh gaps. With Syniti and most traditional tools, analytics connections are severed during migration and must be rebuilt post-go-live. This is one of the most underestimated business risks in SAP migration projects.
When should we choose SNP CrystalBridge over uMigrate? +
SNP CrystalBridge is strongest when the source estate is entirely SAP, the object complexity is high (custom historical data, complex org restructuring), and the project is large enough to justify enterprise SI governance. As a SAP SDT Engagement partner, SNP has broader object access than standard Migration Cockpit. If you are migrating a pure SAP landscape across multiple company codes with complex carve-out logic, SNP is a credible choice. uMigrate is the stronger option when non-SAP sources are involved, budget flexibility matters, or you need operational intelligence to continue running during and after migration.
What happens after go-live — does uMigrate have ongoing value? +
Yes — and this is where uMigrate is structurally different from every other tool in this comparison. Migration is the on-ramp to the STREAM-Intelligence Platform. At go-live, your S/4HANA system is immediately connected to People@Work (live Excel and Power BI for operations), the P2P AI Agent (autonomous procurement intelligence), and Microsoft Fabric via USB4SAP. Syniti's value ends at cutover. uMigrate's value begins.
